Nisga'a Dancing in Both Worlds

Film makers John Bassett and Rosalind Farber made numerous trips to Nisga'a territory beginning in 2003 to document Nisga'a history, their struggle and life since the Nisga'a treaty was signed in May 2000. The result is the documentary Nisga'a Dancing in Both Worlds.
Bassett, perhaps best known for his contribution to A Planet for the Taking, a Nature of Things series which won a United Nations Environmental Award, initially financed the documentary himself believing the remarkable Nisga'a story had to be told.

What's the Deal with Treaties?

What's the Deal with Treaties: A Lay Person's Guide to Treaty Making in British Columbia follows four students on a journey of discovery as they prepare a school project on the BC treaty process. The Treaty Commission developed the video for secondary school students in the Fall of 2000. The video is also appropriate for community information sessions. Teachers and facilitators can use the accompanying viewer's guide to stimulate discussion of the issues in treaty making.
Completing the education package is a treaty handbook that answers many of the questions people have about treaty making and treaty negotiations. Click here to read the handbook.

Our Sacred Strength: Talking Circles Among Aboriginal Women

The Treaty Commission-produced DVD Our Sacred Strength: Talking Circles Among Aboriginal Women captures the voices of aboriginal women across British Columbia. The DVD and accompanying Facilitation Guide are available to BC aboriginal women to help them conduct their own talking circles.
To expand the reach of this important initiative, the Treaty Commission is partnering with the Minerva Foundation on a new program, Combining Our Strength, intended to build capacity and empowerment within the aboriginal women's community in BC. As part of the program, Our Sacred Strength will be used to enhance leadership development for aboriginal girls and women across BC and raise awareness of the challenges they face.

The partnership project will also see Talking Circles convened in five regions of the province. Minerva-trained facilitators will organize the Talking Circles, convene the event, and screen the Treaty Commission DVD Our Sacred Strength.

The Minerva Foundation aims to inspire and empower women and girls to reach their full potential by creating opportunities and offering programs in the areas of education, leadership development, economic security and safety.

Sharing the Experience

Sharing the Experience taps the insights and advice of five First Nation leaders who have reached significant milestones in treaty negotiations in BC - one that is implementing a treaty and four that have signed Agreements in Principle.
In this 22-minute video (VHS), Nisga'a Lisims Government President Dr. Joseph Gosnell, former Lheildli T'enneh Chief Barry Seymour, former Sliammon Chief Maynard Harry, former Tsawwassen Chief Kim Baird, and the late Maa-nulth Chief Negotiator George Watts provide insights into the world of treaty negotiations by discussing their experiences at the negotiation table.

Sharing the Vision

Sharing the Vision captures the views of business, local government and First Nation leaders on the need for certainty in treaties and the desire to build that certainty through good relationships and strong partnerships.
Featured in this 18 minute video are interviews with former Tsawwassen Chief Kim Baird, Lheidli T'enneh's Chief Dominic Fredricks and former Chief Barry Seymour, former BC Chamber of Commerce President John Winters, former Union of BC Municipalities President Aaron Dinwoodie, former Alcan Corporate Affairs Director Richard Prokopanko, former Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley, and Keith Bishop of Telus.
